One of the best restaurants/bars/coffee shop to cozy up with your pet, they even boast cushioned pews for cats (and doggies) to cap nap while you are eating. It’s a great place to brunch on weekends, or spend the afternoon on your computer, as well as happy hour with your pooch.

This is just what the vet ordered! It’s cozy, classic-American themed spot where you can enjoy an outdoor grilling area, and/or the jukebox inside. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a hard day’s work outside the home while bringing your pup along.

Link   Black Door (Chelsea/ West 26th btw Sixth and Seventh Ave)

This is a mellow, dimly lit establishment complimented by huge hanging mirrors that serves cocktails as stiff as the dark wood paneling. The staff loves to stop and pay you pooch a pan on the head or two.

Although outside of Manhattan, what is a better way to spend a weekend afternoon than letting your pup frolic in the water with other pups? On those sizzling hot summer days, your pet can cool off and play at the same time by tromping though cool waters. Just remember to pack a towel, trying to get a cabbie to stop for a dripping-wet dog isn’t quite easy.

Both canine and human mouths water over this Chinatown eatery’s slow-braised lamb shank and sauteed tiger shrimp, and can be enjoyed on the sidewalk patio. You may want to ask for an extra doggie bag for your furry date since you probably won’t leave any leftovers.

Link   @boccesbakery or www.boccesbakery.com

If you give a dog a bone from the bakery’s bicycle , he’s going to want, well, a whole lot more. New York pups are notoriously know to love the all-natural gourmet flavors like PB&J, truffle mac and cheese, and even lobster roll. You can find them rolling around all NYC dog parks, but if you want to find their exact location for the day, follow them on Twitter! Brilliant!

Link   The Park, 118 Tenth Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets
Link  212-352-3313 or www.theparknyc.com

Known mostly for it’s late night club scene, during the daytime, cats and canines can hang on the shady sidewalk patio at the giant converted taxi garage for brunch. Afterwards, you can cross the West Side Highway to play at the park.

Link   Once upon a Tart, 135 Sullivan Street, between Houston and Prince Streets
Link  212-387-8869 or www.onceuponatart.com

A delectable pastry shop that encourages lazy latte-sipping on their ‘porch’. Here you can spend the afternoon enjoying treats and basking in the sun with your pooch.

Link   Outdoor Flea Markets
Link   See a list here

One of the best ways to enjoy time with Fido is exploring the cities street fairs and flea markets. Some are even year-round. NYC bazaars like the Brooklyn Flea and Hester Street Fair allow leashed companions on the grounds (and vendors, we’ve noticed, stash terrific snacks). Your loyal hound may even be able to sniff out a few deals.

Link   Shake Shack, East 23rd Street, between Madison and Fifth Avenues
Link  212-889-6600 or www.shakeshack.com

Who doesn’t love indulging in a Shake Shack burger and shake? But did you know they also host a doggie menu at the Madison Square burger mecca? If you’re pup is feeling adventurous, try the Pooch-ini – a “chilly treat for those with four feet” – or they even offer a bag of Bocce Bakery bones. (See my previous post on Bocce Bakery Bones here).

Link   Central Park Horse & Carriage Tours, Central Park South, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues
Link  347-868-7692 or www.centralpark.com

End up being one of those New Yorker’s who lives here your whole life but never really experiences New York? Join the club! But recently I have been stepping outside the box and realized many tourist-friendly activities can also be pet friendly – the horse and carriage ride for instance. Of course, if all that nostalgia goes over his head, you can always disembark for a vigorous pigeon-chasing session in Sheep Meadow.

Link   Socrates Sculpture Park, 32-01 Vernon Boulevard, at Broadway, Long Island City
Link  718-956-1819

Venturing outside of Manhattan, Socrates Sculpture Park boasts beautiful views on the city from the Hudson River’s Edge. High art gets down and dirty at the quirky Queens park , where visitors toss Frisbees for their pups and take in the latest from contemporary artists like Natalie Jeremijenko and Mary Miss.

Link   Barking Dog, 150 East 34th Street, between Third and Lexington Avenues
Link   212-871-3900

In the mood for comfort food? This doggie-themed diner welcomes your pet to join you for a delicious classic-American meal. They even have a dog-height water fountain for when he gets thirsty.
